VA570 – Veterinary Surgeon

Welcome to Wanstead! We are looking for a well-rounded experienced GP vet who thrives in a hospital environment and wants to be part of the largest ECC provider in London.Having a keen interest in diagnostic imaging or a certificate would be beneficial.About your new role!Wanstead are looking for a veterinary surgeon who is wanting to grab the opportunity to step into this full-time GP role at Wanstead Hospital in East London.The team are looking for a competent GP vet who can jump straight in with routine surgeries, including bitch spays and dentals, and be able to confidently manage emergency cases. With a high imaging caseload this would be the perfect role for a GP vet with a passion for diagnostic imaging, to either utilise their existing skills, or develop on their area of interest.

As a GP hospital vet some of your duties will include:

Ensure a high and improving standard of evidence-based clinical care at the Hospital.Participate in the clinical consulting, medical and surgical rota for Hospital GP vets.Ensure compliance with RCVS Codes of Conduct, Practice Standards and relevant medicines regulation within the Hospital.Ability to work independently while recognising limitations and seeking support when requiredCarry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence-based and in accordance with GVG protocols.Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance. Investigate cases fully and appropriately, using diagnostic aids such as radiography and blood testing.Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competenceConfident communicator with a client-centred approach.Good clinical reasoning and time-management skills.Foster a culture of excellent working relationships within the Hospital and be responsible for the achievement of high morale and a strong team spirit.

Wanstead Veterinary Hospital provides an excellent first opinion, emergency, critical care, and referral service to our clients and local network of 20 branches and works to the highest clinical standards.

There is state of the art diagnostic support, with a CT scanner, a commercial laboratory, a strong medical team, and experienced surgeons routinely conducting advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgery all available on site.

You will be working alongside a large team consisting of approximately 25 vets, 27 RVNs, 14 SVNs, 7 VCAs and a large front of house team who are integral in maintaining excellent client care.

You are fully supported by an established management structure including senior GP and internal medic vets, senior RVN’s, 2 deputy head nurses, head nurse, head vet and hospital manager.

Your rota will be on a 6 weekly rotational basis made up of an average of 40 hours per week, inclusive of your 1:3 Saturday and 1:6 Sunday weekend rotation. This will enable you to work within all departments of the hospital, ranging across consulting, surgery, ward and ECC. You will be rota ‘d to up to 2 bank holidays per year and be included in the last resort on-call rotation.Wanstead itself is on the outskirts of urban Essex but is close enough to rural life for that countryside relief. Transport links into London do not get better than a short walk to a Central Line tube station! It is a beautiful area of London with lots of green space including the local Bluebell Woods. Hackney East London, famed for being a creative and cultural hub of London, bustling markets, green spaces with plenty of pubs, and Goddard Vet Group’s busiest practice in the group that is looking for a senior vet to lead this established site.

About your new role!

Our Hackney practice is one of our busiest in the group, and they work closely with our consult and minor ops clinic in Highbury to support them with their surgical cases. This busy and diverse “mini hub” has recently invested in new ultrasound facilities, to help support its expansive and varied caseload.Our senior vet will be no stranger to a fast-paced environment and will be a keen leader but have ample opportunity to develop their own skills further. You will be involved in the daily caseload of consultations and surgeries, while providing senior support to your team.The practice boasts two consulting rooms, a large prep and theatre area, separate cat and dog wards and a well utilised lab area. We continue to invest in clinical equipment to ensure we have the best equipment for patient care and have further exciting investment plans for our Hackney practice, so please do not hesitate to express what would be on your wish list!You will be working alongside another 2 vets, senior RVN, additional RVNs, students and trainee nurses. The team thrive on their unique dynamic for laughter and pulling together on those challenging days.Being senior vet, you will work closely with your senior RVN to ensure the day to day running of the practice is maintained to a high standard, accountabilities ranging from diary management to clinical governance and team engagement.As a senior branch vet some of your duties will include:– Oversee prescription request administration to ensure that client requests are processed in a timely and accurate manner, that dispensed items are paid for, and that uncollected prescriptions are returned to stock in line with company policy.- Oversee the consulting and surgical/diagnostic diary in compliance with company policies.- Provide site-level induction to new starter colleagues and locums.- Ensure that regular branch meetings are scheduled, minutes taken and actions completed.- Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence-based and in accordance with GVG protocols. – Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care. – Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason. – Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment – Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate comprehensive and useful to colleagues.Hackney is supported by Wanstead 24-hour Veterinary Hospital, so you have the advantage of referring more advanced or emergency cases within only a short travelling distance for your clients for continuation of care.You will also be fully supported by a dedicated regional manager, and experienced regional head vet for any clinical advice or concerns.Leadership training is also provided for all new senior colleagues to help you transition into the senior role.This 38-41 hourly week role (we can be flexible on how a rota can look) over a 4-day week includes a 1:4 branch Saturday and 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation. You will be rota ‘d to up to 2 bank holidays per year in Wanstead and be involved in a last resort on-call rotation. We are looking for a confident veterinary surgeon who is thirsty for a positive challenge, to step into a sole charge GP senior position in our practice in Croydon, South London.About your new role!Between Croydon and nearby New Addington are experienced and long-standing support teams including RVN’s, students and front of house, that play an integral part in day-to-day branch life, including successfully maintaining high team moral.You will have full clinical support from Stone Lion Hospital in Wimbledon, for any complex referrals you may need to make, and OOH care for your patients.You would be fully supported by your dedicated regional manager, and regional head vet who has a wealth of knowledge to pass on and can support you in your clinical management needs.This is a sole charge GP first opinion position, and you will be comfortable with routine GP consultations and surgery, but ample support is provided by management in the region. Our largest 24-hour hospital in the group is looking for a Senior RVN who thrives and excels in an internal referral environment and is looking to step up into a senior hospital role floating between the various hospital departments.About your new role!This full-time (40 hours per week) senior RVN position would be IDEAL for a highly experienced RVN who thrives in all departments within a hospital setting, and is ready to step into a senior role, supporting the various departments in the hospital including theatre, ward, consults and ECC.Do not be concerned if you feel you excel in one department as opposed to another, if there are any gaps in training, we will be happy to support you.
