​About your new role!

​

​Your average 20.12 hourly week is inclusive of a 1:3 branch Saturday morning, and 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation. You will be rota ‘d to 1 bank holiday per year in Mandeville Hospital.

​

​There can be flexibility in how your days in the week look, for example a shorter Monday and full Wednesday (9am-7pm) or full Wednesday and shorter Friday. You will be working alongside another experienced vet on both days, this is NOT a sole charge position during the week.

There are NO on-call requirements.Chalfont St Peter has 3 consult rooms, separate dog and cat wards and is in a peaceful, picturesque village location.As well as being equipped with everything you would expect for a large branch, Chalfont also has ultrasound facilities.The practice has very bonded clients, largely insured and for those invaluable breaks when the sun makes an appearance you have a huge garden and decked out area to have some “me” time.You will be working alongside incredible long-standing vets, an amazing senior RVN, experienced nursing and reception team and an invaluable regional manager who have all worked in/with the practice for years.The Mandeville Veterinary Hospital in Northolt provides out of hours support for Chalfont. It has state of the art 24 hr facilities including CT, an excellent ultrasound, scopes, laparoscopic equipment, and an array of specialists.As a branch veterinary surgeon, some of your duties will include:– Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence-based and in accordance with GVG protocols. – Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care. – Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.  – Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate comprehensive and useful to colleagues. – Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason. – Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment Location wise, if you are looking to be within close proximity of London but for day to life not in the middle of the hustle and bustle, Chalfont is perfect! As senior branch RVN some of your duties will include:

– Delivering outstanding nursing care and ensuring the highest standards of patient welfare across all areas of the practice.

– Confidently nursing emergency and critical care patients, including unstable anaesthetics, triage, blood pressure monitoring, blood transfusions, chest drains and jugular catheter management.

– Assisting veterinary surgeons during consultations, surgery and diagnostics, making full use of Schedule 3 nursing skills.

– Leading and supporting the nursing team, acting as a role model and providing guidance to students and new starters as a Clinical Supervisor.

– Coordinating and delivering in-house training and CPD, including emergency crash drills and clinical protocols.

– Maintaining and auditing clinical equipment, controlled drugs, crash trolley readiness, in-house laboratory analysers and clinical documentation to ensure compliance and best practice.

– Supporting the day-to-day running of the hospital, including weekend and ad-hoc Charge Nurse duties, contributing to leadership meetings and helping to maintain excellent client care across reception and clinical teams.

– Demonstrating excellent organisation, communication and teamwork, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement and quality assurance.

Wanstead itself is on the outskirts of urban Essex but is close enough to rural life for that countryside relief. Transport links into London do not get better than a short walk to a Central Line tube station!

About the role

​

Our Level 2 Veterinary Care Support (VCS) Apprenticeship role is an ideal stepping stone for those who see themselves in the veterinary care environment, with this qualification providing the initial key skills. Furthermore, this is a stepping stone for those looking for that next training step working ever closer to becoming a registered veterinary nurse.

​​

The VCS positions are full-time consisting of 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, including your weekly college day plus a regular weekend rotation. For Stone Lion this is 1:3 weekends, plus up to 2 bank holidays per year, for Kennington it is 1:4 Saturdays. If in a hospital position, there will also be a fair share bank holiday requirement. Prior animal care is preferred yet not essential, but would be advantageous. If you can demonstrate a passion for learning, teamwork, and providing the highest standard of patient and client care you will flourish.

The role is varied, involving a high level of client care which includes reception duties, the cleaning and upkeep of the practice and its equipment/facilities, and of course the hands-on patient care.
