VA387 – Wanstead Veterinary Hospital – Part-time Surgical Veterinary Surgeon

Welcome to Wanstead Veterinary Hospital. Our largest 24-hour hospital in the group is looking for a surgeon who is wishing to step into a purely surgical position, on a part-time fixed term basis.

About the role

This initial 6-to-12-month fixed term role will enable an experienced surgeon to help take the reins of the huge surgical caseload at our flagship hospital in East London.

Working 2 to 3 days per week (Thursday being a preferred day) you will support the team with their soft tissue and orthopaedic cases, although the soft tissue requirement is priority.

The hospital has extensive orthopaedic equipment including locking kits, desoutter drills and a dedicated orthopaedic theatre.For soft tissue surgeries the hospital performs all surgery from GP to referral level including SUB placement, liver resections and thoracic surgery. The hospital also benefits from having multiple cautery units including a harmonic scalpel and a full laparoscopic/thoracoscopy kit.

Wanstead Veterinary Hospital provides an excellent first opinion, emergency, critical care, and referral service to our clients and local network of 20 branches and work to the highest clinical standards.

There is state of the art diagnostic support at Wanstead, with a new CT scanner, a commercial laboratory, a strong medical team, and experienced surgeons routinely conducting advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgery all available on site.

Stone Lion Veterinary Hospital offers a varied caseload of routine procedures, emergency and critical care, as it not only has its own first opinion client base, but also supports the surrounding Goddard practices for internal referral cases that require hospital expertise.

The hospital also provides specialist work with an orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeon, dermatologist, and physiotherapist.

Stone Lion is equipped with everything you would expect from a 24-hour hospital and are now offering laparoscopic spays. We are an RCVS Accredited Hospital and for the cat lovers out there, hold an ISFM Silver Award for Cat Friendly Clinics.

On the outskirts of leafy Essex, and within a 10-minute drive of bustling Wanstead is our first opinion Barking practice, where we are looking for a vet to complete the team on a 3-day week basis. If you were looking for 4 days, we could explore options!

This is a sole charge position, but you will have the full support from an experienced RVN and SVN, and you will be first port of call for day-to-day consultations and routine surgeries.

Both roles are full-time at 40 hours per week with varying shifts between 8am to 6.30pm. There is a 1:3 Saturday rotation from 8am to 1pm.

There are no on-call requirements or Sundays shifts for this role!
