Our veterinary reception front of house team are an integral part of the hospital, because they are first port of call to our clients, and it is of the upmost importance they are being given five-star service and care.

​We are looking for client-focused experienced receptionists to join our invaluable front of house team at Wanstead 24-hour Veterinary Hospital, on a full and part-time basis.

About your new role!

​We want to ensure that while our clinical team support the patients’ needs, we are also able to offer an engaging and friendly welcome to clients. This involves providing effective communications internally and organising our diary so that we can provide the best advice and accurate information to our clients.

The full-time role consists of 4×10 hour shifts, and the part-time 4×5 hour shifts. The earliest shift starting at 8am, and the latest shift up to 10.30pm plus a 2:4 weekend rotation with TOIL (reducing to 1:3 in the near future). You will be rota ‘d to 3 bank holidays per year (including one in the festive period). Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is required.

As a veterinary receptionist, some of your duties will include:– Liaise with key hospital personnel to communicate any delays in consultation start times. – Book referral appointments using SOPs and ensure relevant information sheets are sent to clients prior to the consultation. – Offer nurse clinics to clients, where required. Clients should have the opportunity to visit for advice on pet health and welfare, to include weight, dental checks and six-monthly ProActive Pets checks. – Record details in clinical histories of any conversations with clients regarding fees or anything related to patient care. – Place client food orders as requested and reserve when delivered. Put away the reception food order if required to do so. – Exercise debt control measures, as directed. – Exercise care in the handling of payments and in all financial management generally.  In particular cashing up must be accurately completed. – Process insurance claim forms, if required to do so, in an accurate and timely fashion incorporating full use of the Zeus software. – Prepare the weekly banking, if required to do so, in a secure, accurate and timely fashion.  Report shortages and overs to senior personnel, as directed. As well as a high level of face-to-face client care, there is also a large amount of phone and written communication to our clients, and these methods of communication must be treated equally as professionally.

We are ideally seeking candidates with previous reception responsibilities within a veterinary or healthcare setting to join our team and can work early and late shifts. We do ask for a certain level of flexibly in the role, due to the nature of the profession.

​You would need to be computer literate although training will be provided, but more importantly we are looking for friendly, confident, empathetic individuals who will be proud to make the reception area, their areas of responsibility and for individuals with a passion for animal welfare and who love being a pivotal part of a large vibrant team.

​The roles involve a high level of face-to-face contact with our clients, so you must have the confidence, empathy, and experience to provide the standard of care and the personal touch we expect for our clients and be able to work in a high-pressure environment.

​Wanstead itself is on the outskirts of urban Essex but is close enough to rural life for that countryside relief. Transport links into London do not get better than a short walk to a Central Line tube station!

About your new role!

Our Hackney practice is one of our busiest in the group, and they work closely with our consult and minor ops clinic in Highbury to support them with their surgical cases. This busy and diverse “mini hub” has recently invested in new ultrasound facilities, to help support its expansive and varied caseload.

Our new vet will be no stranger to a fast-paced environment and will have ample opportunity to develop their own skills further. You will be involved in the daily caseload of consultations, surgeries and the triage of emergencies.

​The practice boasts two consulting rooms, a large prep and theatre area, separate cat and dog wards and a well utilised lab area. ​Hackney is supported by Wanstead 24-hour Veterinary Hospital, so you have the advantage of referring more advanced or emergency cases within only a short travelling distance for your clients for continuation of care.

​You will also be fully supported by a dedicated regional manager, and experienced regional head vet for any clinical advice or concerns.

This 36 hourly week role (we are currently exploring how the rota will look) includes a 1:4 branch Saturday and 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation. You will be rota ‘d to up to 2 bank holidays per year in Wanstead and be involved in a last resort on-call rotation.

Location wise, you are just a 6-minute hop and skip away from London Fields Overground station, which takes you all over North and East London, with connections enabling you to reach further out.

About your new role!

This role could suit an RVN or soon to qualify student who thrives in a fast-paced hospital environment, enjoys all areas of hospital nursing and prides themselves in providing the highest standard of patient care. It could also suit an RVN who has been used to a busy branch environment and wants to dip their toe into hospital life.

This is a full-time Monday to Friday position, including a 1:5 weekend rotation with TOIL and up to 2 bank holidays per year.

There are no on-call requirements for this position.

As a hospital RVN you will also help guide trainee nurses in their journey’s to becoming RVNs, and ensure the high clinical standards in consult, ward and theatre are being maintained, as well as being able to develop your own skills for future progression.
