About your new role!
Our night RVN’s are no stranger to a fast-paced action-packed environment and thrive in an overnight emergency setting. You will have a cool head managing your cases but also have the empathy and patience for our beloved patients requiring overnight care.
You will be working alongside another RVN and an experienced VNA/SVN on your shift as well as our highly experienced permanent night vets (1 vet per night).
This role involves a 4 on 8 off rotation with shift times being 7.30pm-8.30am and averages 35 hours per week. This is inclusive of an additional 18 shifts per year (pro rata) to help support with annual leave, so there is the upmost continuity for the hospital.
You will also be supported by the late shift day nurses, who cross over for the start of your shift to assist in handover and for any early evening emergency support.
We are open to reviewing applicants from a range of relevant experience levels. As an RVN experienced in ECC, or an RVN with a keen interest to develop your skills further this role is ideal!
As night RVN some of your duties will include:
- Triage cases on arrival and quickly determine the associated level of urgency and react appropriately.
- Assist veterinary surgeons in theatre, with inpatient examinations and procedures and during consultations, as and when required.
- Maintain comprehensive patient hospitalisation records.
- Ensure a high standard of comfort and welfare for all pets in our care.
- Complete and maintain accurate records of hospitalised patients.
- Carry out duties in accordance with shift guidance notes.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned, packed, sterilised and stored correctly when not in use.
- Ensure orders are stored and put away in correct place if required to do so.
- Answer client telephone calls as promptly as is possible and advise and inform clients on matters of pet welfare to a level of understanding commensurate with training and experience. If there is any doubt about best outcome then clients should be advised to attend the hospital to see the vet.
- Admit clients to reception in a friendly and efficient manner bearing in mind the potentially high level of urgency involved.
- Inform owners of the progress of their hospitalised pets, as directed.
- Record details in clinical histories of any conversations with clients regarding fees, treatment options or anything related to patient care.
Wanstead not only has its own first opinion client base but also sees the internal referral cases from the surrounding branches in East, North and Central London, giving you a plethora of diverse cases a hospital night RVN could dream of.
There is fantastic diagnostic support at Wanstead, with a CT scanner, a commercial laboratory.
Wanstead itself is on the outskirts of urban Essex but is close enough to rural life for that countryside relief. Transport links into London do not get better than a short walk to a Central Line tube station!
Onsite parking is available over night.
Now let’s get to the nitty gritty, here is what we offer you:
The salary band for this 4 night on 8 off position is £35,000 to £41,125 (£40,000 to £47,000 full-time equivalent) depending on prior experience.
