In the heart of the East End of London is our popular first opinion Mile End practice, and they are looking for a vet to jump in and take the lead in this senior position.
About your new role!
Mile End has a VERY busy caseload, and they are looking for a confident GP vet who thrives in a fast-paced inner London environment to help lead the team with its expanding pool of patients.
We are very excited as we are approaching a new era in Mile End, and it is the perfect time for a vet to put their stamp on a practice and be involved in positive change. We are recruiting for a new full-time associate vet and have had a new senior RVN, additional RVN and part-time vet start in recent months who have hit the ground running! This busy and diverse "mini hub" has recently invested in ultrasound facilities, to help support its expansive and varied caseload.
The rota for this role involves a 4-day week with alternating Mondays and Tuesdays off shared with your full-time second vet. The average 38.4-40.4 hours per week (dependant on how long you would like your days!) is inclusive of a 1:4 branch Saturday and 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation. You will be rota 'd to up to 2 bank holidays per year in Wanstead and be involved in an on-call rotation. The 40.4 hours also includes approximately 6 short add-on twilight shifts per year.
As a senior branch vet some of your duties will include:
- Oversee prescription request administration to ensure that client requests are processed in a timely and accurate manner, that dispensed items are paid for, and that uncollected prescriptions are returned to stock in line with company policy.
- Oversee the consulting and surgical/diagnostic diary in compliance with company policies.
- Provide site-level induction to new starter colleagues and locums.
- Ensure that regular branch meetings are scheduled, minutes taken and actions completed.
- Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence-based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
- Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
- Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
- Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment
- Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
You will be fully supported by a highly experienced regional manager, whose support is invaluable to her branches, as well as regional head vet for clinical management support if this is your first senior role.
Leadership training is provided for all new senior colleagues, to help transition into a senior role.
You will also have the support of our flagship 24-hour hospital in Wanstead, who provide OOH care and support for more complex cases and procedures.
Mile End is situated in an ideal part of London, it has a bustling restaurant and bar scene, is close to famous Victoria “Vicky” Park and is within a single 35-minute train journey straight through to rural Essex and Epping Forest, where you will be spoilt for choice for country pubs.
