Part-Time Veterinary Surgeon

Job Code: VA639

Location: Walthamstow

We’re looking for a confident GP Veterinary Surgeon to join our busy Walthamstow practice on a part-time basis.

This is a replacement role within an established team, working Monday and Tuesday on 10-hour shifts, with the opportunity to become part of a really busy and varied first-opinion practice.

If you’re a vet who enjoys a good GP caseload and is comfortable getting stuck into general surgery and dentals, this could be a great fit.

About your new role!

Walthamstow is a large, vibrant town in northeast London, with plenty going on both inside and outside the practice. You’ll find everything from the famous Walthamstow Market and Walthamstow Village to independent pubs, restaurants and the Blackhorse Beer Mile. So there’s plenty to keep you occupied when you’re not in scrubs!

Our Walthamstow practice is a very busy clinic, so this is a role for someone who enjoys a varied caseload and likes being kept on their toes.

You’ll be part of a close-knit team made up of:

- 2 Veterinary Surgeons

- 3 RVNs

- 2 SVNs

- 1 VCA

There’s also parking directly outside the practice, which is always worth shouting about when you’re working in London!

The practice is well equipped for first-opinion work and you’ll have the wider Goddard network behind you when cases need additional support.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who is confident working in a busy GP environment.

You’ll need to be comfortable with:

- A varied first-opinion caseload

- General soft tissue surgery

- Dental procedures

- Working independently while knowing when to ask for support

- Building strong relationships with clients and their pets

- Working collaboratively as part of a busy clinical team

You’ll also need to be willing to train as an OV (Official Veterinarian), with support provided as you develop into the role.

As a Veterinary Surgeon, some of your duties will include:

- Carrying out consultations, thoroughly examining patients and making appropriate management and treatment recommendations.

- Performing routine surgery and dental procedures within your level of competence.

- Prescribing and dispensing medication in accordance with current legislation and RCVS guidance.

- Keeping clear, accurate and thorough clinical records.

- Recognising when cases require further investigation or referral and using the wider Goddard network appropriately.

- Providing a high standard of patient and client care.

- Working closely with the RVN and wider nursing team to ensure patients receive excellent care.

- Helping maintain a supportive and collaborative team environment.

This role is 22 hours per week (average), worked across Monday and Tuesday, with 10-hour shifts. There are also some weekend and OOH commitments:

- 1:4 Saturday

- 1:16 Sunday at Wanstead Veterinary Hospital

- 2 OOH shifts per 8 weeks

- OOH shifts may include Saturday 6pm–9:30pm at Wanstead Veterinary Hospital as an in-person shift

- Any applicable time back will be provided in line with the rota arrangements.

So yes, there are some weekends involved, but the majority of your working week is neatly contained within those two weekday shifts.

A little snippet of the benefits...

The salary band for this role is £42,000 to £67,000 FTE, depending on experience.

For this 22-hour-per-week role, your salary will be pro rata based on your contracted hours.
