Veterinary Surgeon

Job Code: VA638

Location: Ewell

Looking for a practice that gives you plenty of room to breathe and a varied GP caseload? Welcome to Ewell.

We’re looking for an additional Veterinary Surgeon to join our Ewell practice on a full-time basis.

Ewell is a historic suburban village in Surrey, around 12 miles from Central London, giving you that lovely community feel while still being within easy reach of London. And with Nonsuch Park on the doorstep, there are plenty of green spaces to escape to when you’re not in the practice.

About your new role!

Ewell is a beautifully designed clinic with plenty of space, including an open-span prep area, walk-in kennels, a large reception area and a genuinely impressive staff area. It’s a busy GP practice with a growing caseload and a large, loyal client base.

You’ll work alongside an experienced senior vet with plenty of support around you day to day.

The practice is equipped with digital X-ray, dental X-ray and ultrasound facilities on site, allowing you to work up a good range of cases without needing to send everything elsewhere.

As a Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll be involved in the day-to-day GP caseload, including consultations, medical work-ups and routine surgery.

As a Veterinary Surgeon, some of your duties will include:

- Carrying out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations based on best practice, evidence and GVG protocols.

- Performing surgery on cases as appropriate and within the boundaries of your personal competence and the limitations of overnight care.

- Maintaining, prescribing and dispensing medications in accordance with current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.

- Recording accurate and thorough clinical notes, ensuring pets’ histories are comprehensive and useful to colleagues.

- Referring cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, where a case cannot be undertaken at branch level.

- Building strong relationships with clients and providing a high standard of patient care.

- Helping maintain a respectful, supportive and collaborative team environment.

You’ll be fully supported by our experienced Regional Manager, as well as a Regional Head Vet for any clinical or management support you may need.

You’ll also have the support of Stone Lion Veterinary Hospital in Wimbledon, our 24-hour hospital, for referral of more complex cases.

Stone Lion has its own rotating night team, meaning your patients have access to invaluable out-of-hours care when they need it, while you have the reassurance of knowing there is a wider clinical team behind you.

This is a full-time role working an average of 40 hours per week, with the following rota commitments:

- 1:4 branch Saturday

- 1:10 Sunday at Stone Lion Veterinary Hospital

- 1 bank holiday per year

- No on-call

- No Twilight shifts

So, while there is a weekend rota, there’s no sneaky on-call lurking in the bushes afterwards.

A little snippet of the benefits...

The salary band for this role is £42,000 to £67,000 FTE, depending on prior experience and allowing room for growth in the role.

As a Goddard Vet, you’ll also receive:

- 6.6 weeks’ annual leave, including bank holidays

- Generous relocation assistance, where applicable

- Up to £2,000 CPD budget every year, plus up to 5 days’ paid CPD leave

- Private medical healthcare insurance with Bupa

- Support from experienced clinical and regional teams

- Access to the wider Goddard hospital network for more complex cases and clinical development

Ewell offers a great mix of village life and easy access to London. Nonsuch Park provides acres of green space nearby, while multiple local train stations make commuting straightforward.

You’re also within easy reach of desirable parts of London including Richmond and Wimbledon, and London Gatwick Airport is around a 30-minute drive away.
