Our well-established and popular first-opinion GP practice in West Ham is looking for an additional Veterinary Surgeon to join the team on a part-time basis.
Located around 6 miles east of central London, West Ham sits between Stratford and Plaistow, with a mix of traditional residential streets, community green spaces and the regenerated area around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
About your new role!
In the bustling heart of East London, this hugely popular first-opinion practice is looking for a vet to join the team on a part-time basis, averaging 20 hours per week.
Our veterinary salary band is £26,325 to £35,685 (this is £45,000 to £61,000) FTE based on 40 hours per week, depending on prior experience and allowing room for professional growth within the role.
You'll be working alongside an experienced senior vet who loves to teach, so this is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a busy GP environment but also values having plenty of support around them.
We're looking for a future colleague who is comfortable with routine surgery and dentals and enjoys getting stuck into a varied first-opinion caseload. You'll have the opportunity to build relationships with your own clients and their pets, while having an experienced colleague nearby to bounce ideas off and share knowledge.
You will be fully supported by an experienced team and regional manager who is there to help support the team with everything from day-to-day operations to development.
As a Veterinary Surgeon, some of your duties will include:
- Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations based on best practice, evidence and GVG protocols.
- Perform surgery on appropriate cases within your personal competence and clinical limitations.
- Maintain, prescribe and dispense medications in accordance with current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
- Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure patient histories are comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
- Refer cases in a timely manner when further investigation or treatment is required, with access to Wanstead Veterinary Hospital for internal referral.
- Build strong and trusting relationships with clients and their pets.
- Help maintain a respectful, supportive and collaborative team environment.
West Ham is fully supported by Wanstead Veterinary Hospital for more complex cases, OOH care and hospitalisation.
The hospital has extensive 24-hour facilities, including CT, ultrasound, scopes and laparoscopic equipment, alongside access to a range of specialists.
You'll also have the opportunity to develop your ECC experience during your hospital Sunday shifts, giving you exposure to a different side of veterinary medicine while still having your main base firmly in GP practice.
This is a part-time role averaging 20 hours per week, inclusive of your weekend rota.
The role includes:
1:4 branch Saturday rotation
1:8 Sunday rotation at Wanstead Veterinary Hospital
You will be rota'd for up to 2 bank holidays per year, pro rata.
There is also a last-resort-only on-call requirement and occasional Twilight shifts at Wanstead Veterinary Hospital as part of the wider rota. These are very rarely used, and we're happy to discuss exactly what this looks like during the recruitment process.
The practice is smack bang between West Ham Park and Stratford, giving you plenty of green space nearby while keeping you close to everything East London has to offer.
It's also just around an 8-minute walk from the nearest station, with excellent transport links across London and into Essex.
So whether you're commuting into work, heading into Stratford after a shift or simply looking for somewhere with a bit going on outside of work, you're pretty well placed.
And yes, being able to correctly identify a football is entirely optional.
Now let's get to the nitty gritty...
Our veterinary salary band is £26,325 to £35,685 (this is £45,000 to £61,000) FTE based on 40 hours per week, depending on prior experience and allowing room for professional growth within the role.
