We are barking mad for Barking (sorry for the obvious pun there!) and the team are looking for a vet to join them every Wednesday or Thursday and Friday.
About your new role!
On the outskirts of urban Essex, and within a 10-minute drive of beautiful and bustling Wanstead is our first opinion GP Barking practice, where they are looking for a vet to complete the team on a 2-day week basis. If you were looking for 4 days, we would be happy to explore “add-on” options in the region.
This role is Wednesday or Thursday and Friday and includes a 1:4 branch Saturday and 1:8 Sunday rotation in Wanstead Hospital. You will be rota ‘d to 1 bank holiday per year and be included in the last resort on-call rotation (pro rata).
This is a sole charge position, and we are looking for a vet who can confidently provide a full GP service. Having a bias in surgery and dentals would be a bonus for the branch due to its caseload! In addition to digital x-ray, the practice is also equipped with dental x-ray to aid in your oral cases.
As a sole charge branch vet some of your duties will include:
- Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence-based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
- Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
- Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
- Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
- Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
- Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment
- Work alongside your RVN to ensure branch meetings are scheduled and the clinics SOP’s are being actioned
- Oversee the consulting and surgical/diagnostic diary in compliance with company policies.
You will have the full support from your nursing colleagues, regional manager and regional head vet for any additional operational and clinical support you may need.
Barking is also well supported clinically by Wanstead 24-hour hospital that provides its surrounding branches with invaluable OOH and internal referral care.
There is state of the art diagnostic support at Wanstead, including CT, a commercial laboratory, a strong medical team, and experienced surgeons routinely conducting advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgery all available on site.
If commuting via public transport, the practice is a mere 6 minute walk from the Barking overground and circle line, making all other areas of London easily accessible.
Now let’s delve into the nitty gritty, here is what we offer you:
